What would I-001 do?
Further endanger child abuse victims and weaken parents’ rights to know that their child has been the victim of a crime at school.
Washington State Nurses Association, WA State PTA, WA State Coalition Against Domestic Violence, and Planned Parenthood say I-001 will harm children.
I-001 is so poorly written it will:
Remove common sense school record protections for victims of child abuse.
Weaken parental notification requirements if their child is the victim of a crime.
Worsen the teen mental health crisis.
Force schools to “out” LGBTQ+ students, putting them at risk of violence and homelessness.
“Domestic violence experts say [I-001] could make it harder for a child to reach a safe adult. For that reason, we urge voters to turn it down.”
-Seattle Times Editorial Board
Parents have the right to know what’s going on with their kids at school. But while most parents are loving and supportive, the sad reality is not all kids are safe at home. Child abuse is more widespread than most realize: there were 117,629 reports of child abuse or neglect in Washington in 2024 alone.
I-001 will make things worse for victims of sexual assault and domestic violence by taking away their access to a safe place where they can talk to a trusted adult.
If I-001 passes, Brian Heywood’s MAGA agenda would be forced on all our families, putting all students at risk. Vote NO.
